Over the years many private Golf clubs have tried to preserve its elite status, with members only policies and strict codes of conduct. An exclusive status is not something you would normally associate with a nightclub, but a Toronto nightclub - Toronto Temperance Society has policies which might put exclusive golfclubs to shame.
Apart from its members only policy, the club has its own set of laws which members are expected to follow at all times. A few examples - No one under 25 is allowed inside the club unless accompanied by an adult, men are not permitted to speak to a lady without first being spoken to and do not under any circumstance order a cosmopolitan drink. Violation of any rule might lead to you being ejected from the club.
One would think that some of these rules are stifling, but this has not deterred the people from queuing up to get a membership at the club. "Toronto Temperance Society is only trying to bring to Toronto what is happening in cities like London, New York and Melbourne" said Sweete, one of the joint owners of the club.
