Steven Slater, the JetBlue flight attendant literally became a hero of the service industry overnight, after he put an abusive customer in place by dramatically quitting his job. If you don't want your bartender to have the same dramatic meltdown as Slater, here are some do and don'ts on how to behave in the bar. Bartenders love their job but sometimes they have to deal with annoying customers to keep the party flowing smoothly.
DO be friendly to the bartender. This is a no-brainer. Bartenders like to engage with customers and it's easier when you are friendly.
DON'T snap your fingers at the bartender. Chances are you will be ignored for the rest of the night.
DO have your order, ID and change ready.
DON'T curse, yell or throw things at your bartender.
DO ask your bartender to surprise you with a drink. Bartenders like an appreciative customer.
DON'T wave your money around asking to be served first. No one likes a show-off
DO be courteous.
DON'T ask the bartender to be your dating agency by asking him to hook you up with another customer.
DO show respect and leave the bad ass attitude outside the door.
DON'T ask for freebies. You might have a good reason to ask for one, maybe the neighbor's cat died but don't do it.
