It happens every holiday season, we party hearty leading up to New Year’s Day and then set near-impossible goals come January 1st for our new Year resolutions. Why set yourself up for failure? The truth is, few people can resist the urge to get hammered in order to get through their frenetic lives. Fewer still have the discipline or energy to make time for the daily grind at the gym. Here are a few fun ways you can meet your excercise and alcohol reduction quota:
Excercise Resolution Options
Clubbing is a fun way to burn off calories. Dancing the night away can burn more calories per hour than other activities such as riding a bike or swimming. Salsa dancing burns 420+ calories per hour and belly dancing burns 380 calories per hour. At the very least, clubbing cover charges are way cheaper than a gym membership. Plus, you get to sample a different club’s ambience each weekend rather than staring at the same gym décor.
Alcohol Resolution Options
If you can’t give up the booze, then don’t! Split the difference and agree to drink only Earth-friendly organically produced liquor. Sipping it rather than shooting it keeps your alcohol consumption in check.
There are awesome varieties of organic alcohols to choose from: Juniper Green Gin is “the world’s first organic London dry gin” but also produces vodka, plain and spiced rums, and even a scotch whiskey using organic methods. The company seems most proud of an endorsement from the Royal Family, whose members probably know a thing or two about gin.
Other green-friendly vodkas have numbers in their names: Vodka 360 and Vodka 14, for instance, alongside Square One offer many unique imbibing ideas such as tea-infused cocktails.
In keeping with wider vodka trends, some offer varieties infused with things like cucumber; Crop Vodka goes a step further, offering the unusual choice of tomato infusion [an excellent choice for Bloody Marys].
The Del Maguey company offers several varieties of mescal, each of which is produced within a single Oaxacan village using no chemicals, colorings, or additives. Find outlets, retailers and restaurants, on their website.
Now that you have respectable options for your New Years’ Resolutions, what about quitting smoking, you ask. You’re on your own with that one I'm afraid, we are not a miracle worker. So man up, go cold turkey, and have a Happy Holiday!
