So you want to have a fashion show, but you don't know how to go about having one? Not to worry! You have come to the right place! Remember that a fashion show is a big event so you're going to need assistants to help with lighting, getting models ready backstage etc... If you're having trouble finding assistants, simply ask a few of your friends or family members to assist you.
Step one:The Venue
A fashion show is like any other event and as such, you will have to search for a venue that will hold a number of people. Make sure that your venue has a runway or a "path" that can be used as a catwalk. Some venues to consider:your local school auditorium, a park , or even your local community center.
Step two: The Invitation
You will need to send out invitations and perhaps post a few flyers around town with details of your fashion show. Do you have a theme in mind? Will this show be held in spring, summer, fall, or winter? At what time will the fashion show occur? These are some important details that you should keep in mind when making your invitations. If you need help coming up with a theme, then think of what type of music you would like to play at the show. The genre of the music will help you to determine the theme of the show. Also keep in mind what kind of clothing you will have the models wear. Will your models be wearing bathing suits? Lingerie? There are so many endless possibilities.
Step three:Getting Designers
We're not talking Coco Chanel here. You could easily find designers at the local fashion college in your town. Students are always willing to showcase their designs as long as you give them credit for their work. In the same way, you could get your local boutique to lend some fashionable wear for your show. Some boutiques would be glad to have you borrow their clothes as long as you a do a little PR work for them. If all else fails, then design the clothes yourself! If you are unable to make the clothes yourself, then you could always find an affordable seamstress who can. Remember to return all borrowed clothings the way you found them!
Step four:Finding models
Finding models shouldn't be so hard once you realize that everyone is a model these days. Make good use of the internet. Place an ad online detailing what type of models you are seeking. If you are on a tight budget, you could easily find models willing to do work for free. That is, some models will work for free as long as you provide pictures for their portfolio. Once you have chosen your models, set up a time for them to come for a fitting. At the fitting, have the models try on the clothes as well as walk in them. Make sure to get polaroids of all the models in their outfits.
You're almost ready for the show, but here are a few things to do before the show: Have your assistant(s) write the names of the models on the polaroid pictures and attach these to the models' clothes. This will help the models to see what clothing they will be wearing. Make sure to also let the models know in which order they will put on each outfit. Also make sure to have masking tape(for placing the bottoms of slippery shoes), double sided sticky tape( for low plunging necklines), and tons of makeup on hand. Finally, make sure that the lights, music, and clothing are all in order. You're now ready for the show! Good Luck!
