Having an event without a flyer is much like making a movie without a preview or a teaser clip. Not only that, on EventOrb your events will not show up in the calendar and will be less likely to be featured on the front page if you don't have an event flyer. I know, I know, you have two left feet when it comes to graphic design and every designer wants his weight in Benjamins just to walk to his computer let alone open up Photoshop and hook you up with a design for your flyer. Well not to worry, if you have Photoshop and a few minutes here is how to hook yourself up with a simple yet appealing design.
-
Create a new image in Photoshop with dimensions 2100x1050. As a rule of thumb, it's always best to start out with a large image if you're desiging for print unless you're working with vector images.
-
Select a bright yellow for the foreground color, and red for the background color. I used #fdf403 for my yellow and #f94313 for my red.
-
In the toolbar, click Filter > Render > Clouds
-
You now have a great background for your event. Add the title of your event to the flyer. Large Impact font with a white foreground seems to blend well with this background, but you can get a little creative. Add a black outer glow with the following settings to create a smokin' effect, and that's it. You're Done!
-
Okay, well, you're almost done. The flyer looks a litte bare at this point. To fix that, all you need are a couple of well placed inanimate objects. I chose two. A pair of sunglasses and an imposing looking skyscraper. I have added the two images in the zip file attached to this post.
There, now you've got a spanking brand new flyer to upload to your event on EventOrb. Don't forget to select a nice theme for your event page when setting it up. Also check out other flyer designs in the flyer topic of our forums.
TIPS:
- Cut out the area around the sunglasses and the building before adding them to the image and play around with their blending modes to make them blend in with the backgound.
- Add a mask to the skyscraper layer and then a gradient to the top of the skyscraper. That will make your skyscraper look like it's disappearing in the clouds.
