The UFC has a live event on Spike TV tonight starting at 6pm Pacific Time / 9pm Eastern. The event is called “Fight For The Troops” and all donations from viewers and fans will benefit the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.
The main event tonight at the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, North Carolina, is between Josh Koscheck and Yoshiyuki Yoshida. Koscheck is coming off a loss to Thiago Alves on October 25. This is a quick turnaround for a fighter to fight again so quickly and it will be interesting to see how Koscheck performs tonight.
Koscheck stepped in as a replacement for the injured Diego Sanchez and fought Alves on short notice. He did not sustain any major injuries in that fight and was deemed healthy enough to fight on tonight’s card.
Yoshida has a 10-2 MMA record and has won his last nine fights. His last win was against War Machine in UFC 84. Tonight’s fight will be Yoshida’s second appearance in the Octagon fighting for the UFC.
Koscheck is a wrestler with an ever-improving stand-up while Yoshida is a judo expert. This fight could go either way and it should be very competitive. Four other fights are scheduled to be shown live tonight. The first fight to be televised will be Matt Wiman vs. Jim Miller. This will be a battle of lightweights so fans can expect a lot of action in this match.
The other fights that will be shown live are Mike Swick vs. Jonathan Goulet, Steve Cantwell vs. Razak Al-Hassan, and Tim Credeur vs. Nate Loughran. Out of these fights, the most intriguing one is the fight between Cantwell and Al-Hassan. Both are making their UFC debuts. Cantwell previously fought in the WEC and was impressive in his fights for that organization.
Al-Hassan has a 6-0 record with four of his wins by submission. There are five fights scheduled for the undercard, and a few of them might be shown on Spike TV if time permits. Tonight’s event is a three-hour show and the event benefits a very worthy cause. Since the UFC has been laying off a lot of fighters of late, expect every fighter to try to put on a great show tonight.
A win would elevate their status in the UFC but a loss could mean the end of their UFC career.
