July 28 - Aug 1 2008:
NYC's restaurant week started out in 1992 as a one time event to welcome the Democratic National Convention (DNC) to the City. Thanks to the eager appetites of New Yorkers who leapt at the chance of dining at the City's top restaurants for a fraction of the usual cost - at the time $19.92 for three courses, the show will go on.
The event has expanded to include both lunch and dinner offering - three-course, pre-fixe meals for $24.07 and $35 respectively - and extended to two weeks each in the summer and winter. There are a whopping 235 restaurants who participate, making available a broad and diverse range of cuisines.
