Could The iPad be Coming Soon to a DJ Booth Near You -- For Good?

by Jerry Paige on Mar 30, 2010 08:20   1  Comments   Share

Apple has confirmed that it's latest iGizmo on the block--the iPad, will be making it's debut in Best-Buy retail stores around the U.S. starting April 3rd.

Some have questioned the true innovative value of the iPad and whether it's a breakthrough device like it's predecessors, the iPod and the iPhone, or just a super-sized iPhone with a different name. Let's assume the latter is the case for a second. It still means several iPhone apps such as the iPj app -- an app created for Djs, could make the transition to super-size status as they are modified to work on the iPad. Infact according to Gizmodo the first of such applications -- Mixr, a fully-featured, multitouch DJ app is already available on the iPad.

Modal, Bamberg, and Ingeo: Eco-Fabrics

by Svelte on Jul 22, 2009 16:43   2  Comments   Share

As Fashion Director for Fashion Fights Poverty, it is my job to understand the eco and ethical fashion world. Although these fabrics have been around for a few years, I came across them today in talks with a potential designer. In doing some research, I found that these fabrics are bio-based fiber which means their creation doesn't involve the exploitation of the environment in its production and they are biodegradable. Modal and Bamberg have been described as "they look like [silk] chiffon, [but are] super-sophisticated." While Ingeo (which literally means "ingredients from the earth") on the other hand, is the world's first commercially viable synthetic fiber derived entirely from renewable resources.

For designers who are considering going eco, these might be fabric choices you would consider using. Below are some garments made out of these fabrics.

JCPenny Coming to Manhattan!!

by Svelte on Jul 20, 2009 15:45   2  Comments   Share

As of July 31, JCPenny will officially give Macy's something to worry about! They are opening a flagship store a block from Macy's in midtown Manhattan.

I have to admit I am super excited!! I know JCP has a reputation of being unfashionable and not always of the best quality, however, I think they have some amazing finds and incredible deals. Have you been to any of their holiday sales events??? Anyway, it's going to be interesting to see what they carry, what the pricepoint will be, and how rival department store Macy's will handle it.

Will you shop there?

Is This Dress Appropriate for a 16 Year Old?

by Svelte on Jun 6, 2009 02:11   3  Comments   Share

I saw Miley Cyrus in this dress at the MTV Movie awards and it had me thinking, is a 16 year old enough to wear a dress that has a flowly bust line, low cut back and side? Maybe I'm old fashioned but her fashion choices are a little to grown up for me...

Unconventional & Fashionable Tees

by Svelte on Jun 6, 2009 00:43   0  Comments   Share

The RenéeQ Bespoke line is a refreshingly cool collection of tees that combine African fabric with cotton tees. The concept is innovative and the designs are fun and unique. It appears that no two designs or tees are the same, which for a fashion lover like myself is the best thing ever!

Renée Zellweger & Carolina Herrera - PLEASE BREAK-UP!

by Svelte on May 20, 2009 13:04   11  Comments   Share

I know celebrities have special relationships with certain designers. They tend to wear those particular designers a lot more than others out of loyalty, respect, and a genuine love of the way thier clothes flatter their bodies. BUT the relationship between Renée & Carolina has gone wayyyy too far! I love both of them to death but I am soo tired of seeing them together!! I can't stand to see one more strapless gown.....

Please, please, please, for the sake of those of us who are fashion-gazers, take a time-out from one another!

First Lady's Fashion: Overated??

by Svelte on May 19, 2009 12:05   12  Comments   Share

So I know I will probably get a lot of flack for this but is it just me or is first lady Michelle Obama's style slightly overated?? So I just had a conversation with a girlfriend of mine. She and I both came to the conclusion that while Mrs. Obama's choices have been flattering, fun, and really chic, can she really be deemed a fashionista??

I wonder if there is a subtext of race and class...In other words, is she a fashionista because most people don't expect or don't know that black women also have refined taste or is there a genuine sense that her style influences trends??

Let me know what you think!!
