The first step in putting ads up on your event pages is to first upload your event to EventOrb.
  1. After uploading your event, navigate to your event listings by hovering your mouse over the "My Account" link in the top right navigation menu and click on "My Events".

  2. From your event listings page, click on the "Manage Ads" link beside the event you wish to upload ads for to get to the Ad Management page.
Once on the Ad Management page, you'll notice a miniature image respresenting your event with the various ad-zones highlighted. Currently EventOrb supports two ad-dimensions.
    i) The 728x90 Banner and
    ii) The 120x600 skyscraper.

  3. To upload your ad, Click on one of the ad-zones mentioned above to reveal a textarea on the right side of the page.
  4. Copy and paste your ad-scripts into the available textareas and click the Save button. Make sure the ad you are pasting in the textarea corresponds to the dimensions of that ad-zone.
  5. You can preview your event page by clicking on the preview link, to see how your ads will look like on your event-page.

Since EventOrb's launch a little over a year ago, the calendar page has been one of the most visited pages on our website. The calendar gives you a pictoral view of all the events coming up in the calendar month, with popups that show the elaborate details of every event. The calendar also provides the ability to add your events directly unto it without leaving the page, giving you the opportunity to catch the eye of event seekers with your own event flyer. More...

The EventOrb Journal - A Live Feed for Event Promoters

by Jonathan Awotwi on Oct 4, 2009 23:45   0  Comments   Share

As part of our October 2009 release, EventOrb has released "The Event Promoter Journal" -- a live feed integrated into the profile pages of Event Promoters, consisting of all their activities, written thoughts and accumulated actions that their audience can interact with.

This bite-sized stream of live updates provides a simple yet very effective way for promoters to directly engage their audience.

Here are some of the features that come with this release:

  1. A nifty new sidebar containing a user's logo, action links, network, event photos and upcoming event widgets.

  2. While logged in, a promoter can drag and drop the widgets in their sidebar to different locations. Everyone visiting their profile page will then see their sidebar widgets ordered according to their preference.

  3. Clicking on the enlarge icon underneath the upcoming event pops up a bigger view of a promoter's event, with more detail.

  4. A content area containing a little more information about a promoter's profile, a journal entry field that they and their audience can write into and most importantly their Live Journal Feed.

  5. We hope the new features come in handy for promoters as they continue to try and keep their audience up to date. Now more than ever we are looking for ways to integrate with other live stream websites such as Facebook and Twitter, to give promoters a more pervasive presence online.

    As always, happy promoting!

Finding Professionals in the Event Space via User Search and Other Great New Features

by Jonathan Awotwi on Aug 20, 2009 08:11   0  Comments   Share

It's tough working on new features for your favorite event promotion website with all this good weather outside, but we managed to churn out a few regardless. Here are some features that are now available on EventOrb.

User Type Field on Edit Profile Page
We've added a new drop down field to the Edit Profile page that allows you to tell us who you are. Are you an event promoter, DJ, performer or just a casual user

Whatever your role, you are almost certain to find an option in the drop down list that describes you. The list was compiled after careful analysis of the types of users that are enrolled on EventOrb. And what's the value of being able to select a User Type? We're glad you asked, this leads us to our next new feature.

User Search Functionality on Community Page

User Search allows anyone to carry out advanced searches for users by using several filters including-- yes, you guessed it -- their User Type, email, location, sex or name.

As more and more users sign up on EventOrb to promote their events, bands and venues, we have begun to realize that EventOrb could serve as a valuable platform for advertising your skills as a promoter, DJ etc. or look for other promoters and event aficionados that you can collaborate with.

User Event Listings Enhancements in Profile Pages
On your user event listings page, we've added a search bar to help you find your own events faster. This should come in handy if you have posted several events on your profile. We have also improved the interface drastically for your event interaction links, making it easier for you to manage individual events.

We've added a cool new link that allows you to duplicate an event and edit it's details, saving you some data entry time. We've also touched up the Emailer interface that allows you to send notifications about your events.

Further Ahead
We promised you a ticket sales engine a while ago and we intend to make good on that promise. It turns out there is a little more legal red tape involved in providing a ticket sales solution than we had hitherto imagined. Once all of that's taken care of we hope to launch a great ticket sales platform to help you monetize all the events you post on EventOrb.

Facebook anyone? No promises here yet folks, but I must admit we are increasingly growing an appetite for Facebook integration. We are dedicated to ensuring the high visibility of every event you promote on EventOrb and it seems lately, nothing says high visibility than a presence on facebook. So who knows, someday soon you would be able to add an event on EventOrb and be able to tell everyone about it on Facebook.

Enjoy the new features folks and all the great events going on during the rest of the summer.

As always, happy promoting!

10 New Features For a Better Event Search

by Jonathan Awotwi on Jun 22, 2009 08:27   0  Comments   Share
We would be the first to admit that searching for events on EventOrb was a frustrating and cumbersome experience due to a somewhat unintuitive interface. As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance key features on our site in preparation for offering a co-brandable version of EventOrb to interested parties, we've added 10 great features to help give you a better search experience.
  1. You can now search for events using comma separated keywords. Event search will search through our database and return all events matching any of those keywords and the rest of the criteria you have provided.

  2. We replaced the list of links for categories with a drop down list from which you can select a category to further narrow down your search.

  3. We've added a Date Range drop down containing 5 options representing the date ranges from which to draw events.

  4. You can enter a custom date range by using the Ajax date pickers that show up after you select the "Custom" date range option from the drop down list.

  5. You can now search using a broader Location search, or narrow down the proximity of your search by using a zip code search.

  6. We've added a little bit of pizazz to our zip-code slider, making it update the distance label in real-time as you drag it. Wanna see something cool? Click on the slider handle once, then hit left or right using your keyboard's direction pad and see what happens.

  7. You can now see the number of results your search filter returned.

  8. There's now a drop down field that allows you to change the number of events displayed per page for your search results.

  9. A second pager has been added to the header, so you can not only navigate using the pager at the bottom of the search results but also at the top.

  10. Last and definitely not the least, you now have a lot more bookmarking options after you run a search.
We hope you enjoy the new features we have added to event search on the Orb. Don't stop sending as your feedback and recommendations.

As always, happy promoting!

EventOrb pimps out Event Calendar

by Jonathan Awotwi on Dec 15, 2008 22:17   0  Comments   Share

Event Orb CalendarWithout any doubt, the single most complimented feature on the Orb has been our event calendar, which allows you to see events on the day they occur represented by their default flyer image.

But wait! That's not all, hovering your mouse over the flyer typically exposes a fly out with the details of your event, and clicking on the flyer takes you to your event page. Even better, for those of you who never noticed it the calendar typically shows multiple events where applicable, and allows you to scroll through all the events available on that day. Some pretty nifty stuff if we may say so ourselves.

So we decided to take our event calendar to the next level by allowing you to create a concise version of an event and even upload a flyer -- all of this, without leaving the calendar page. When you're done, "presto", your event magically appears on the calendar. If all of this sounds too good to be true, then don't take our words for it, click on this link -- http://www.eventorb.com/calendar to check it out for yourselves.

Profile Videos, RSVP and Multi-photo Uploads

by Jonathan Awotwi on Nov 30, 2008 21:54   1  Comments   Share

We've added a few new features that should go a long way in improving your event promotion experiences on the Orb. As usual, all of these new add-ons have come directly from many of you who currently promote your events on the Orb.

Profile Videos
Previously, the only way you could upload your event videos to EventOrb was if you created an event first. Obviously, this can be a bit of an obstruction sometimes when you just want to upload a video without having to create an event for it. We have saved you the extra step of having to create an event before uploading videos, by allowing you to upload videos directly to your profile.

What makes this even better is that, not only do you get to upload your videos with ease, but you can easily choose to assign your video to an event later on if you like. Videos can now be moved from your profile to an event, from an event to your profile or quite simply, from one event to another event.

RSVP
We gave our RSVP system a makeover to make it more useful to you. Previously visitors to your event page could just 'tag' an event to indicate whether they were going or not going. We have changed this system of tagging an event to RSVPing the event instead. Now, alongside indicating whether they are going or not, visitors can also leave a comment as well. To make this even cooler, once visitors RSVP your event, you get an email notification that lets you know about it.

Best of all, we've added a spanking brand new set of tabs to all your event pages. The first tab shows the comments and Event GPA ratings that visitors have left for your event and the second tab shows who has RSVPd your events and the comments they have left. Of course, you can quite simply set your event to private to make these visible to only those whom you choose to give access to.

Multi-Photo Upload
We were recently subjected to intensive finger wagging and eyebrow raising from a few of you, expressing your disapproval of the fact that you had to upload your photos one by one for your event. We understand that this could use some huge improvements. We hope to add an ActiveX control in the future that allows you to select multiple photos you want to upload from your hard drive and upload them in one big batch.

For now, we've added three more fields to allow you to upload four photos at a time for your events. Hopefully that improves things enough until we deliver an ActiveX solution to issue of multiple photo uploads.

Well, that's about it for now folks. Even as you read this our developers are working arduously on the next set of feature enhancements. Hope you enjoy the new features.

As always, happy promoting!
