Hip-hop star Mos Def has made it a habit of pulling out of his concerts and disappointing his fans. Now he is being sued by concert promoters REMG Entertainment after he was a no-show at his concert at the Kool Haus in Toronto.

REMG has claimed the star pulled out of his concert just 24 hours before his scheduled slot, despite cashing a $12,500 deposit. The deposit was a guarantee of his performance at the concert. After failing to show up Mos Def didn't bother to return the $12,500.

There's more. Concert organizers say on top of not returning the deposit they lost another $45,000 in "lost customers, sales and goodwill." Concert organizers are suing the rapper for at least $57,500. More...

A great show ended in a tragedy when pop singer Charles Haddon jumped off a telecommunications mast and into a parking lot at the Pukkelpop festival in Belgium. The 22-year-old Haddon of the band Ou Est Le Swimming Pool was found in the parking lot by DJ Jan Van Biesen.

His death is being investigated as a suicide after festival organizers confirmed the singer had "taken his own life."

There have been speculations the singer killed himself because of a stage-diving incident that happened earlier during the band's performance. A young girl was seriously injured after Haddon suddenly dived into the audience. Haddon reportedly feared he may have crippled the girl for life and was heard saying, "I hope she pulls through. I hope she will be able to walk." More...

by Sandy on Aug 20, 2010 02:29   0  Comments   Share

There's always two sides to every story. Concert organizers of Gathering of the Juggalos have washed their hands off any responsibility in the insane incident that happened last weekend to online celebrity Tila Tequila at the Juggalos festival.

Juggalo Gathering LLC that organizes the Juggalos concert said neither it or the band Insane Clown Posse was responsible for Tila Tequila being attacked by fans of the band.

The company had this to say, "Ms. Tequila was made aware, in advance, of her unpopularity with many Juggalos at the Gathering, but she insisted on performing. She was even paid in full before her performance, and was told that she did not have to perform, but if she did decide to perform, she could leave the stage the minute that she felt uncomfortable." PALM SPRINGS FILM FESTIVAL TAKES OFF IN CALIFORNIA

by Toni Wry on Jan 7, 2009 10:25   0  Comments   Share
January 6-19-The  international Palm Springs festival got off to a start yesterday with the 20th annual Awards Gala. The Awards Gala, which was sponsored by company Cartier, was a black-tie event held in downtown Palm Springs;many celebrities hit the the red carpet.  The film festival will run from the 6-19 and will feature international films from around the world.
Every year, each country can submit one film to the Academy Awards. The Academy then narrows that down to the five nominees up for the Oscar in this category and then selects the winner from that five. What this basically means is that PSIFF will have some of the best of world cinema . If you want to get a jump on the Oscars and see the films of the Best Foreign Language category before the Academy Awards ceremony (Feb. 22, 2009), a good bet is to hop on over to Palm Springs and see a couple of their films.(Source)

Want to organize a film festival of your own?

  1. Planning- First find a niche/genre. What will your festival be about? How long will you run this festival for? Will you have an awards gala to kick off the festival?
  2. Committee- Gather a few people(maybe some family friends) to help you plan this film festival. This will be your special team/Committee You can even get volunteers to become your audio/visual crew.
  3. Budget- Create a budget. Festivals can get very expensive so it's best to create a budget and for you to follow that budget to a "T".Remember that the bulk of your money will go into buying, renting or previewing films, shipping fees, office supplies, postage, festival gifts, and graphic design and printing costs for invitations, posters and brochures.
  4. Schedule-Keep in mind that you'll need at least a year to organize this shindig. You'll need at least a few months just to secure a venue. Possible venues could be a movie theater, a park.
  5. Meeting with Film makers- Plan on meeting with film makers for the viewing. After which, decide on which films you will feature at the festival. Remember to request two copies of each film that you will be showcasing
  6. Festival guide- Get someone to design a festival guide for you; this will be your program for the festival. Include in the program movie descriptions, director and writer profiles, volunteers, and any sponsors where applicable.
  7. Invitation- Create an invitation. Who will you be inviting? Perhaps some directors, writers, producers? Do you know any celebrities? If not, plan on contacting their publicist and see if you can get your local celebrity to come your festival.
  8. Sponsors- Solicit sponsors. A sponsor could be your mom, the local grocery store, gifts in the form of food etc.
Happy Festival Planning!
