I have counted down to the New Year at celebrations in customary haunts such as Mexico, São Paulo, Hong Kong, Sydney, Monte Carlo and believe me, it can get pretty stale year-after-year.

How many times are you going to go be a part of New York’s annual Times Square extravaganza, eat a grape for every stroke of midnight in Barcelona or stand under the fireworks cascade over Sydney’s harbor? It happens every holiday season, we party hearty leading up to New Year’s Day and then set near-impossible goals come January 1st for our new Year resolutions. Why set yourself up for failure? The truth is, few people can resist the urge to get hammered in order to get through their frenetic lives. Fewer still have the discipline or energy to make time for the daily grind at the gym. Clubbing is a fun way to burn off calories. Dancing the night away can burn more calories per hour than other activities such as riding a bike or swimming. Salsa dancing burns 420+ calories per hour and belly dancing burns 380 calories per hour. At the very least, clubbing cover charges are way cheaper than a gym membership. Plus, you get to sample a different club’s ambience each weekend rather than staring at the same gym décor.
